Not just a headache

Our sweet 6 year old boy battles headaches.  At first we thought that was it, just a headache. After months of this cycle where he would collapse to his bedroom, throw up and fall asleep we begin to realize that this was much more.

What do you do when you baby is hurting and you don't know why or how to fix it? It breaks our heart when this happens to him. We were obviously scared that this might be more than a migraine but he had the neurological exam and he does not show signs of a tumor. PTL!

His last headache lasted for THREE days! He had fever, nausea, and dizziness for three days. It happened to be while we were traveling which I am sure made it 110 times worse for him.  There were things he wanted to do, things he had been looking forward to and he was sidelined due to his monster migraine.

Our doctor said that sometimes his little brain go so hard all the time that it has to "shut down" and "reset"and this could be a result of that.  He is highly intelligent (probably smarter than me already) and this could be a side effect. Who knows, at this point I am grasping at straws to figure out what is going on.

So here we are, at the beginning of getting help for our oldest baby.  We have been instructed to keep a headache journal and try to figure out what triggers them so we can eliminate that. Then we can meet with a neurologist to see if medication will help. We have also been encouraged to go Gluten Free. FUN. I might kick and scream the whole way but I am researching it so we will see.

Anyone battle migraines? What helps? What about Gluten? Anyone Gluten Free???

  1. Poor Cam! I don't know much about migraines but I do know that gluten really is "good" for anyone. I know many families that have eliminated completely from their diets. I have done research and would like to work up to that but it will be a process because its in EVERYTHING. We'll be praying that the Lord directs y'all through this process and heals his little body.

  2. My husband suffers from migraines. His triggers seem to be strong smells (like overly used perfume/cologne on a person), bright lights directly in his eyes (like some pointing a flashlight in his eyes), and exhaustion. So far drinking a coke (maybe the caffeine helps?) and going into a dark room and sleeping are what helps. If he can get to sleep for at least a few hours he wakes up good as new. Poor Cam!
