I started training for my 5K using the cto5k program a week and a half ago. I am starting week three tomorrow so I am ahead of pace and feeling great about it (my race is may 12th). My problem is I haven't actually been able to lose any weight....ok I have lost one pound.  One pound???  I have been eating 5 small meals and staying around 1600 calories.  I wanted to do a 1200 calorie diet, however I am still nursing and would like to for a year. So am I stuck not losing weight or losing weight at a tremendously slow rate until I stop nursing? I is pretty frustrating to be working so hard and not seeing any results on the scale.  It doesn't feel very rewarding when I have been getting up every morning and going to the gym with the crew, eating healthy and seeing zero results, other than I am able to complete my workout without feeling like I might die.  I have been tracking every calorie on my iphone using Calorie Counter and the only thing that is happening is that my milk supply has gone down.  I am going to continue with gazelle intent and I know I will see results soon, but I am wondering if anyone nursing has gone through the same thing???


In other news my oldest is out of school for four days and then we leave for Oklahoma for four days.  I will be super busy trying to keep him busy and out of mischief....wish me luck!

  1. Okay- this is going to suck to hear, but you might be one of those people that CAN'T lose weight while breastfeeding.
    I know, it SUCKS. (I am one of those people, too.)
    I'm going to be honest with you and tell you it was one of the reasons why I quit breastfeeding.
    Is that selfish? Absolutely. But FOR ME to be the best mom I can be, I needed to feel good about myself.
    I'm not telling you to quit breastfeeding, you do what is right for you.
    But I'm telling you the weight just may not come off until after you're done.
    I know it's totally unfair, especially when so many women lose a BUTTLOAD of weight from breastfeeding.

    Anyway, don't get discouraged. Hang in there and keep going! :)

    1. I have two theories on the whole bfeeding thing after thinking...ok obsessing about it the past week.
      1. "They" tell people they will lose weight faster to get more people on board with bfeeding. Which, yes my stomach went down faster but I didn't lose weight faster.
      2. Your body can't possibly lose weight while its trying to feed another human. I think it stores everything "just in case" it needs it to feed the new life.

      I had committed to myself that I will try super hard to breastfeed for a year...in reality I will most likely make it at most another two months. I don't think you are selfish. I feel like mom's make decisions in the best interest of their children (I am sure there are extreme cases like those battling something but were talking most moms) and who am I to think someone is "crazy" or "selfish" for those decisions. I agree you do what you can to be the best mom you can be. Your story is so inspiring!

  2. Keep it up, lady! I promise in the end it will pay off! Don't worry about what the scale says. The more you dwell on the scale, the more frustrating it gets! Just get healthy!!!!! I'm proud of you! I want to run with you! What 5K?

    1. Lauren, I just put the scale in the closet rather than its former place, the bathroom floor. I am anxious to pick your brain soon.....over wine of course ;) 5k May 12th through lifetime, you don't have to be a member and its 7 bucks. It is however, Mother's Day weekend, hope you can join me!
